Abstract
Leiomyosarcomas account for about 1% of all malignant tumors of the stomach. Gastrointestinal bleeding and/or epigastric pain associated with an intramural or exogastric mass are the usual presenting symptoms of this disease. Spread is by direct
invasion or blood-borne metastases.
Prognosis is very poor and the results are affected by tumor size, DNA ploidy pattern, and tumor grade.
With analysis of survival & recurrence, neither the addition of lymphadenectomy nor the wider tumor-free margins of a radical gastrectomy seemed superior to the nire conservative local excision.
Therefore, wide local excision remains the preferred treatment when technically feasible.
In Feb. 1992 surgical department of CNUH college of medicine experienced a patient with giant leiomyosarcoma of stomach and performed the wide local excision. Since authors seemed to hare experienced a rare case, we report our experience with a
brief
review of literature.
